Weight Loss Doesn’t Have to Be Trial and Error | HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test

The hardest part of any diet or lifestyle change is the ability to actually stick with the plan. And when you try your hardest and follow it through and through, but nothing changes – no mood change, no more energy than you had before, no weight loss – it is so crushing. All that effort for nothing. The reality is, food and exercise regimes are not one size fits all and our DNA has a lot to do with it. With the HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test, you can learn exactly what will work for you so you can avoid the heartache of unsuccessful nutritional changes.

We’ve all been there. We want to lose weight. We choose a new diet and exercise routine. We stick with it, as hard as it may be. And nothing. The results just aren’t there. Whyyyyyy? Why me? Because of our different genetic markers, what works for me, may not work for you. The key to a truly healthier lifestyle is understanding how our genetic markers affect and react to different aspects of food, nutrition, and exercise.

That’s where the HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test comes into the picture. Forget all of the different diet fads and exercise regimes. To be successful, you need to first determine how your body reacts to certain foods and exercise. The HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test is a scientifically-based weight-management test that identifies your genetic makeup and provides diet and exercise strategies uniquely tailored to your specific group. No more trial and error. Get results the first time around.

My boyfriend recently got the opportunity to try the HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test and last week got his results. All I can say is WOW! Talk about a lot of info and AHA! realizations. His results were a total of 72 pages, including details on how his body reacts to food, nutrients, exercise, and his overall ability for weight loss.

Ability for Weight Loss

Weight Loss Doesn't Have to Be Trial and Error | #HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test #weightlossMy boyfriend has tried a few different things to lose weight over the years and like most of us, nothing really worked. The first thing that struck me in his HomeDNA results is that based on his genetic markers, his ability to loss weight with diet and exercise is LOW (the results even list the specific genes used in coming to this conclusion).

Well, no wonder it’s been so hard for him. Even so, this doesn’t mean he can’t lose weight. He just has to work harder than others may have to and will truly have to make a permanent lifestyle change to lose the weight and keep it off.

Food

Weight Loss Doesn't Have to Be Trial and Error | #HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test #weightlossThe food results go into great detail about what types of food should be eaten, how much should be eaten, and if counting calories, the suggested calorie intake per day. You will learn how your body reacts to different food groups, like proteins, fats, and carbs. In my boyfriend’s case, his body utilizes protein and carbs normally, but utilizes fats at a lower rate, meaning a high-fat diet isn’t going to do much for him.

Nutrients

One of my favorite things about the HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test is that based on your results, you’re given a sample menu and even details about which specific foods would benefit your diet and which won’t. A lot of this has to do with how your body processes different nutrients.

Exercise

Weight Loss Doesn't Have to Be Trial and Error | #HomeDNA Healthy Weight Test #weightlossDid you know there are two components to exercise? Cardio AND resistance training (build that muscle). I’ve seen some people focus solely on one or the other, which may be okay for their specific needs, but that’s not consistent for everyone. In my boyfriend’s HomeDNA results we learned that for him to be successful in losing weight, he needs to hit the weights more. His body has an enhanced response to strength training, which will help reduce his body fat.

It doesn’t mean he can simply forego cardio altogether. Cardio may not help him when it comes to fat loss, but it is still beneficial to his overall fitness. In particular, high intensity cardio is the most beneficial for him. And just like the results lay out a food plan, there’s an exercise plan too.

In the past he has done a combo of both cardio and resistance training, but focused more on the cardio side. Now knowing what he does, he can adjust his exercise routine to be more beneficial and add more strength training so he can burn the fat.

So, the results you get from this genetic testing is a lot to take in and process, and quite frankly can take you a while to fully get a handle on. I do most of the cooking at home and do the grocery shopping, so I’ve been trying to get a handle on the custom meal plan and foods that have been laid out for my boyfriend. I want to be as supportive as I can and I’m still trying to get things all in order.

Reading through and deciphering why your body reacts the way it does can be overwhelming, but in the end you have a better understanding of what works for you when it comes to weight loss. I love the fact that there’s a full 7 day custom menu plan to help give a kick start and an easy to follow custom exercise plan that details what gym machines to use, what gym classes to take, what to do at home, and on what days and for how long. And it’s all tailored to your DNA and genetic makeup.

This is just one page of the custom exercise plan.

My boyfriend is just getting started on his new lifestyle change, so he’s still working to see what types of results he gets, but just having the knowledge of what is supposed to work and what isn’t, is a big relief because he knows all of his hard work will pay off this time.

Making Time for Great Recipes: Blue Wave Smoothie

Making Time for Great #Recipes: Blue Wave Smoothie

One thing I’ve tried to change in my diet over the past few years is to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.  So far it’s been a lot easier than I thought it would be and I’ve learned so much about different ways of preparing and cooking different fruits and vegetables.

About 4 years ago, in an effort to lose weight I decided to look for a cookbook that had recipes that were low in carbs, fat and calories.  I came across Eat What You Love by Marlene Koch.

Not only is this cookbook great for weight loss, but the recipes were also great for controlling diabetes, which is something that runs in my family.  Up to this point I’ve avoided being diagnosed with diabetes and hope to be able to continue being diabetes free.

Making Time for Great #Recipes: Blue Wave Smoothie

Every single recipe I’ve tried from Eat What You Love has been delicious and I use the recipes ALL the time.  One of the first recipes I tried was the “Blue Wave Smoothie” and it immediately became a favorite.  And now, 4 years later, I’m still enjoying a “Blue Wave Smoothie” about once a week.  It’s easy to make, requires only a few ingredients, uses fresh fruit and tastes amazing!

Making Time for Home Fitness: 2 Week Daily Burn Update + My Favorite Recipe

2 Week #DailyBurn Update + My Favorite #Recipe

I’m now well into week 3 of my Daily Burn adventure and thought I’d just give you a little bit of an update on how my first 2 weeks went.  And since I’ve had some time to try some of the Daily Burn recipes, I want to share with you one of my favorites so far.

Week 1

Well, I didn’t lose any weight the first week, but that didn’t get me down.  I noticed a major boost in energy, which is something that’s proven to be beneficial.  I’m staying up later at night and being much more productive than usual, and productivity is definitely a good thing when you’re a working at home mom of two.

The increased energy keeps me going during the day and unlike before, I don’t yearn for a nap every day (even though I never really got naps before anyways).  During my daughter’s nap time I can get some work done, or some blogging completed, and even get my daily workout in.

Week 2

Although there was a noticeable increase in energy during week 1, I was a little bummed that I didn’t lose any weight.  I didn’t let it get me down, though and decided to make some changes to my diet in week 2 while continuing with my Daily Burn workouts.

I cut out as many carbs as I possibly could.  No bread, no rice, no potatoes, no pasta.  Well, I did say as many carbs as possible – I did have a small portion of mashed potatoes and rather than white rice, I opted for brown rice one evening with dinner.  But I was able to manage without any bread or pasta.

2 Week #DailyBurn Update + Crustless Vegetable Quiche #Recipe

In week 2, not only did my energy stay boosted, but I lost 3 pounds! Woohoo!  Now I’m working on week 3 and killing it.

Daily Burn Recipe: Crustless Vegetable Quiche

I’ve had a little bit of time to try some of the Daily Burn recipes and so far I am loving the Crustless Vegetable Quiche.  No joke, I could have eaten the whole thing by myself.  Luckily for my boyfriend, I saved him some and then to my surprise, he finished it off.  Even my 10 month old had a few bites.  It really is delicious!

This Crustless Vegetable Quiche #recipe from Daily Burn is healthy AND delicious!

There’s a lot of ingredients that go into it, but it’s actually pretty easy to make.  Don’t let that fancy “quiche” word scare you.  This is the first quiche I’ve ever made and it was definitely love at first bite!

Don’t forget you can sign up with Daily Burn and get a 30 day free trial.  In fact, I’m still in my own free trial period.  Plus, there are plenty more tasty recipes to try out to help you on your adventure.  I can’t wait to try more of them.  I’m thinking maybe something to satisfy my sweet tooth would be good next.
