Putting up our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving dinner has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. But this year we just couldn’t wait and already have our tree up. So we’ve decided to start a new holiday tradition – family games. Everyone in my family, from adult to child, loves to play games, so naturally it seems like the perfect way to spend our Thanksgiving day together after we’ve gotten our bellies full. This year, we know Goliath Games and Pressman Toy have the family-friendly games to make our holiday complete.

When it comes to family game night, I have to keep in mind my kids are still little. So many of the games that I may enjoy as an adult, just don’t work for the whole family. That’s why I’ve turned to Goliath Games and Pressman Toy, because they have the perfect family-friendly games that even my preschooler can have fun with.
One of my kids’ favorite games from Goliath Games is Pop the Pig, so there’s no doubt we’ll be feeding that plump pig chef burgers on Thanksgiving. If you’re not familiar with the game, it’s all about feeding the pig and plumping up his belly until…POP! Whoever pops the pig, wins.
New to our family is another Pop the Pig game, Pop the Pig “Pop N’ Race.” I’m excited to share this one with my kids because it’s a fun variation of the original. This unique game board features a specially designed pig die popper. Pop his belly and race around the board as you try to be the first player to get your 4 movers home.
Another fun family-friendly game from Goliath Games in our holiday lineup is Pop Rocket. It’s a game that’s really out-of-this-world! Pull the string on the Rocket to start the countdown, and roll the die. Move your color star catchers to where you think the little stars will land, but keep an eye on that Rocket because it’s only a few seconds until BLAST OFF! Watch the stars explode into the sky and land in your star catchers. Be the first one to collect enough stars to fill your constellation to win!
We’re not stopping there! To continue our new family game holiday tradition, we’ll also be doing some fishing with Let’s Go Fishin’ from Pressman Toy. I just know we’ll have some REEL fun with this one! Players use their mini fishing poles to try to catch the most fish. The challenge is that the board game spins, and the fish open and close their mouths. With 21 fish and 4 fishing rods, there’s plenty of fishing fun in this fast-paced competition, and these fish are as hungry as hungry hippos.
Of course, I can’t forget to have some games my daughter has specifically been asking for – Mr. Bucket and Lucky Ducks. I think Mr. Bucket is going to be the game that helps us work off our Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a game that gets everyone up and moving, trying to scoop up the balls that match your colored shovel, and then dropping the balls into Mr. Bucket, as he whirls and spins around the floor. Watch out though – Mr. Bucket will try to block the balls with his hands and even spit the balls right back out of his mouth onto the floor. Get all three of your colored balls inside Mr. Bucket first to win!
As for Lucky Ducks, this is a game that’s fun for both parents and kids. Switch on the circular pond, and the ducks start swimming. The bottom side of each duck has a colored shape. Players take turns picking up a duck and looking at the color and shape; if it matches their color and shape they get to keep the duck. If it doesn’t match they put it back. The ducks continue to swim so it’s more challenging than a traditional memory game, but easy enough for even the youngest duck lovers to play.
I can’t wait to start our new family game holiday tradition, filled with lots of fun for everything. From family favorite games, to new additions, I’m sure this will be a tradition will live on!
