While I have never personally suffered a migraine, I do on occasion suffer from terrible headaches that make my eyes feel like they’re going to pop out of my head. After a long day of sitting in front of the computer, or using my phone to answer emails throughout the day, my eyes are pretty strained and they have absolutely no problem letting me know.

When this happens, I usually end up going to bed early because it just hurts too much to have my eyes open. Closing my eyes for a few minutes doesn’t help, as they continually throb and the light in the room doesn’t help either. The only thing that helps is sleep in a dark room. And just imagine how hard it is to get through the day when these eye-popping headaches present around lunch time. There’s no darkness to be found.

I hate having to go to bed early due to a headache like this because I miss out on valuable family time. It’s just absolutely no way to live. But after being introduced to The Migraine Hat, I don’t have to live this way anymore.

What is The Migraine Hat?

The Migraine Hat is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a hat that helps reduce and eliminate the effects of a migraine. Now, as I’ve already said, I have never personally experienced a migraine, so I’m going to offer my opinions on the product from the point of view of my eye-popping headaches that ultimately result in me going to bed earlier.

Features:

  • Quick cooling and soothing relief
  • Adjustable one size fits all (adults and children)
  • Hands-free hat for use on the go
  • Removable hat topper
  • Removable and reusable flexible Cryo-gel Ice Packs that stay cold up to 4 hours
  • Adjust tight or loose to target pressure points
  • Pull over eyes and ears to block light and sound
  • Drawstring storage bag keeps all components together

The science behind The Migraine Hat is that ice compression, or cool compression, helps to relieve migraines. The Cryo-Gel Ice Packs provide up to 4 hours of cooling relief and because The Migraine Hat is adjustable to fit loosely or tightly, you’re in control of the amount of compression you want. And since it’s a hat, it’s hand-free relief so you can get back to living life the way you were meant to.

Relief in 3 Simple Steps

Before using The Migraine Hat you have to give the Cryo-gel Ice Pack time to freeze. But once it’s nice and cold you’ll definitely be in business. You simply place the ice pack into the hat and close the Velcro along the top rim.

Does it work?

For those of you who experience migraines, I’ve heard they’re much more intense, debilitating even, and beyond what I experience with my eye-popping headaches. With that being said, I can’t say whether it helps with migraine relief, but as far as my headaches The Migraine Hat has worked wonders.

I find the frozen Cryo-gel Ice Packs to be too cold for me, so rather than freezing them I keep mine in the refrigerator. When I feel my eyes starting to hurt, or even after they’re in full-on “watch out, don’t stand in front of me, POP” mode, I wrap my hat around my head and immediately get relief. When the ice packs are refrigerated they hold their coldness for about 30 minutes and that’s all I need.

I also prefer to have the hat fit tightly and when I do it that way I can feel the individual ice squares applying pressure in all the right places, particularly my forehead and temples. I also like to keep the hat pulled down over my eyes so that it’s dark and also without the hat topper so there’s room for my mom bun. After 20-30 minutes I’m able to get back to my family or carry on with whatever I need to.

Price

The Migraine Hat retails for $29.99 and included you get two of the Cryo-gel Ice Packs so that while you’re using one, you have another that will be ready at hand if you need it. I think this is a great price considering it’s more effective than what multiple bottles of generic medicine could do.

There is another package option for $59.99 that includes a third Cryo-gel Ice Pack, along with a custom cooler bag that will keep The Migraine Hat ready for use while you’re on the go.

Order at The Daily Migraine

The great thing about The Migraine Hat is that it can be used on the go. Wear it while you work, in the car, while doing housework, on your lunch break, grocery shopping, anywhere! It definitely provides me the relief I need to get back to my daily routine.

8 Tips for Managing a Sick Kid

When the kids get sick, don't run for the hills. Use these 8 tips that help me manage and care for my kids when they get sick. #DrMom #DrDad #sickkid

If there’s one thing that comes along with cooler weather that doesn’t put me in the holiday spirit, it’s a runny nose and sniffles. More so when it’s the kids that have them and right now both of my kids are sick. The past two days I’ve been in full on Dr. Mom mode and have been making time to send all these sick germs packing. Hopefully they kick the bucket soon (the germs, not my kids).

Here are eight tips that I use for managing a sick kid. I’m certainly no medical professional, but I’ve found these tips to work well for me when one or more of my kids get the common cold.

Medicine

Giving your child medicine probably seems like a no brainer, but not all medicines actually heal the sickness. Rather, they help to make cold symptoms easier to withstand, while the cold runs its course. Pay attention to what symptoms manifest themselves (fever, runny nose, cough, sore throat, etc.) and choose a medicine that corresponds with those symptoms. Most kids don’t like taking medicine, including mine, so don’t make it worse for them by forcing a medicine that really isn’t going to help.

Are you a breastfeeding mom? When your child’s sick, continue to breastfeed because your body will help produce the antibodies needed to get over the cold. There’s nothing like homemade organic mommy medicine!

When the kids get sick, don't run for the hills. Use these 8 tips that help me manage and care for my kids when they get sick. #DrMom #DrDad #sickkid

Rest

Just like when we get sick, kids need a lot of rest. Let them sleep whenever they want – morning, afternoon, evening, night. Besides, I’m sure you could use a nice break from all the ruckus they make on a daily basis. When sick, I let my kids sleep in and I don’t limit their rest at all. You want to sleep in the chair? Go right ahead and sleep in the chair.

Hydrate

Staying hydrated is typically hard for anyone who’s sick. I know all I want to do is sleep and that leaves no time for food or hydration. Still, I try my best to keep my kids hydrated when they’re under the weather. If I can’t get them to drink water or juice, I give them Pediasure and they’ll usually take a few sips here and there. I’ll take a few sips over none at all.

Warm Bath

There’s nothing like taking a nice warm bath and washing away all those icky sick germs. When your child has a runny nose, chances are they’ve wiped their hand across their nose and then spread all the ickiness across their face, hair, hands, arms and clothes. Yuck!

Run a nice warm bath, clean them up and put them in some clean jammies. It may only be a little while before the germs are all over again, but a bath still helps kids feel better and gives you peace of mind that the sick germs have at least been washed away for the moment. Plus, the warm water will help clear up some congestion.

Clean Air

Keeping the germs at bay and giving your kids good, clean air to breathe is very important. How do I do this? With my Ozazzy “I Am Air” Cool Mist Humidifier. This thing has been running nonstop the past two days and is definitely helping. It releases cool, moist air, so if either of my kids happen to play in the mist (which they have been doing relentlessly) it isn’t going to burn their hands. I’ve had my Ozazzy at its highest setting so it’s pumping out a lot of great moisture to help clear up these little runny noses.

I also like to add some essential oils like eucalyptus and tree tea oil to the humidifier’s water. Just like using Vick’s in a vaporizer, the eucalyptus oil helps clear up my kids’ congestion and the tea tree oil helps disinfect the air. It’s nothing but easy breathing around here!

And if all else fails, get out of the house. This is a little harder considering most of the time you’re cooped up in the house when someone is sick, but getting some fresh air outdoors works wonders. Even opening the window will help.

Sanitize

Sanitizing kind of goes along with clean air. I use Lysol spray to sanitize my home and rid it of germs whenever anyone gets sick. Each night I spray around the house after the kids have gone to bed and I’ll admit, there have definitely been a few times I’ve had to open a window or two because I went a little Lysol crazy. But hey, the germs have got to go!

When the kids get sick, don't run for the hills. Use these 8 tips that help me manage and care for my kids when they get sick. #DrMom #DrDad #sickkid

Love

I can’t stress this one enough. No one likes to be sick and even though as adults we typically just want to be left alone, kids need all the love they can get. They don’t understand what’s going on with their body and some things may seem scary, especially if they’re vomiting. So just hold and cuddle your kids. It won’t last forever, so you might as well get it in while you can anyways. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever cuddled and loved on my kids as much as I have these past two days. Cuddles are comforting to them and you’ll enjoy it too.

Clean Sweep

When all is said and done, and the sniffles and runny noses are gone, it’s time for a clean sweep. Wash any and all blankets/bedding that were used while the kids were sick, and do a bleach/water soak of any plastic toys they played with. I also do a final sweep of the home with the Lysol spray, just to make sure I’m covering all my bases. Sick germs be gone!

How do you manage a sick kid?

~Please note that I am not a medical professional and these are simply tips I use when my kids get sick. If you have an emergency or feel like your child needs to see a doctor, by all means, please take them. If after a few days my tactics aren’t working and my children’s colds seem to be getting worse, we visit the pediatrician or a pediatric urgent care/after hours clinic.~

Pampering Is Easy with #Groupon

Health, Beauty & Wellness Groupons are all I need for a full day of pampering at an affordable price. #Groupon #ad
*This is a sponsored post. Opinions are 100% my own.

Now that we’re soon to be in our new home, I have no idea where to go for all of my beauty  and pampering needs. All of my usual places are way too far, so I have to find new spots. And affordable ones at that.

My plan isn’t to just drive around looking for places in the area and I don’t know anyone around here so I can’t really ask around, so I’m turning to Groupon! Not only can I find savings on all of my health, beauty and wellness needs, but it’s a way to easily narrow down locations that are close to me.

Health, Beauty & Wellness Groupons are all I need for a full day of pampering at an affordable price. #Groupon #ad

The first thing on my list is a massage. After loading up all of our belongings in a storage container at our old address, I could barely move the next day and we haven’t even unloaded everything at our new place yet. I’m sure I’ll be sore and stiff the day after we do that, too. So being the proactive person that I am, I’ve already started planning a day of pampering for when we’re all moved. While browsing Groupon I found tons of Health, Beauty & Wellness Groupons that fit the bill.

This isn’t my first time using massage Groupons, either. My boyfriend actually surprised me not too long ago with a Groupon for a local spa near our old home and it was an awesome experience. I got 3 facials, 3 full-body chair massages and 3 water bed massages all for just $29, and the spa itself was very serene and relaxing. I went once a month over a 3 month period, so it was literally 3 days of pampering in one great deal!

And now that I’m planning my own day of pampering, I can’t wait to make time after this move is over to get a massage. I’m already eyeing Groupons for a deep-tissue massage, a foot massage, a facial and everything in between!

Have you ever used a Groupon for a pampering need?

GERBER CEREAL Provides the Iron My Little One Needs

GERBER CEREALS provide a great source of iron for little ones, as they grow and develop in their first year. #GerberCereal @Gerber #babyfood

Sooo, have you figured out yet that we are totally a Gerber family? I’ve been talking about our love for Gerber for a few weeks now. My mom has told me that I grew up on Gerber baby products, my son grew up on Gerber baby formula and purees, and now my daughter is in love with just about every Gerber food that exists. Yeap, I think it’s safe to say we’re a Gerber family.

Because I have two kids, I tend to compare them when it comes to reaching different milestones and while my kids are like two peas in a pod and look like twins born 3 years apart, they still have their own personalities and differences. One such difference is as I just mentioned, my son was given baby formula, but my daughter has been breastfed.

So while my son was getting all the nutrients he needed through his baby formula, one thing my daughter is lacking from being breastfed, is not getting enough iron. No matter how much iron intake I have, it doesn’t affect the amount of iron in my breast milk.

Where is my daughter going to get the iron she needs? She’s going to get it from GERBER CEREALS! Told you we are a Gerber family, haha.

Did you know iron was important to your baby’s diet?

Adequate iron intake is important in supporting healthy brain development and overall growth, especially within baby’s first year. Breast milk naturally contains iron, but many times exclusively or partially breastfed babies are started on an iron supplement at around the age of 4 months.

My daughter is getting her iron supplement in the form of GERBER CEREALS. Just 2 servings of GERBER CEREAL a day provides her with 90% of the daily iron she needs to help support her learning ability.

GERBER CEREALS provide a great source of iron for little ones, as they grow and develop in their first year. #GerberCereal @Gerber #babyfood

We recently made our weekly trip to Walmart to restock on her GERBER CEREALS and chose to stick to the basic ones like Single Grain Oatmeal, Single Grain Whole Wheat, Single Grain Rice and also Multigrain. The GERBER CEREALS were very easy to locate in the baby section and my local Walmart even had a large end cap display of nothing but our favorite GERBER CEREALS.

Since we’ve restocked, my daughter has no problem getting her daily amount of iron intake and now that she’s 12 months old, she likes when I mix in a little Gerber puree. I mix in some of the fruit flavors when she has GERBER CEREAL for breakfast, and in the evening for dinner, I mix in some of the vegetable flavored purees. She loves the taste and I love that she’s getting the iron she needs to continue healthy growth and learning.

Snack Time with Gerber Lil’ Beanies

Snack time in my house could very well be my kids’ favorite time of day. They run ragged all day, so when snack time rolls around they’re more than ready to be refueled. My toddler now thinks she can eat everything her older brother does and she certainly wants to.

The problem is that he’s such a picky eater to begin with and only eats certain foods – junk foods (hopefully he’ll grow out of this stage soon). So while my toddler may be able to handle the consistency of some of the foods her older brother eats, they’re not the healthiest foods for her.

One of my son’s favorite snacks is cheese puffs and it’s also a snack my daughter enjoys as well. Definitely tasty (who doesn’t like cheese puffs?), but certainly not very healthy.

Beep, beep! My mom’s saving $0.75 on Gerber Lil’ Beanies, my favorite snack!

Luckily, Gerber Lil’ Beanies is the perfect substitute for my toddler. They may not have the exact same cheesy taste as cheese puffs, but they have the same consistency and their very own delicious taste.

The best part? They are so much healthier for her and she loves them! It’s a win-win for both of us!

Mom, do you think 3 is enough?

Made from navy beans, Gerber Lil’ Beanies are a baked bean-based snack (say that 3 times fast, haha) that provide 2 grams of protein, 1 gram of fiber and 10% the daily value of Vitamin E, per serving.

Ooooh, here comes another mom and her kids! Tell her how to save on Gerber Lil’ Beanies!

And with two available flavors, Original and White Cheddar Broccoli, you’re toddler will surely enjoy one or the other, if not both. My daughter loves the White Cheddar Broccoli Lil’Beanies and when we visited our local Publix last week to pick some up, she couldn’t even wait until we got home to dig in!

Not only do I prefer my daughter to enjoy Gerber Lil’ Beanies as a snack over cheese puffs, I also like that they’re very affordable. Publix has them for just $2.00 each and to make it an even better deal, Ibotta is offering a $0.75 rebate! So if your toddler hasn’t yet tried Gerber Lil’ Beanies, now is the perfect time to head to your local Publix and pick some up.

Just look at my daughter! The other day I realized she had gotten kind of quiet and when little ones get quiet you know that normally means they’re up to no good. I looked around and found her sitting under the table with one of her Gerber Lil’ Beanies snacks.

Skinthology & PatchMD Make Taking Vitamins Easy

PatchMD Vitamin Supplement Patches are the easiest, most effective way to stay healthy.

I was never much of a vitamin taker until I first became pregnant, and even then I quickly learned that vitamin pills were not my friend. I am absolutely no fan of gagging on gigantic pills, but could manage if I needed to. And since giving birth that’s exactly what I’ve done – managed. In an effort to continue living healthier I’ve been taking a multivitamin, although it’s not the most fun thing to do.

I later learned that my mother-in-law actually can’t stomach vitamin pills. Any time she takes one it upsets her stomach and brings about unwanted side effects. The whole point of taking vitamins and supplements is to live healthier, but if taking them orally is causing side effects, it’s not helping very much.

So what are we to do about taking vitamins? Is there no easier way than swallowing large pills or an alternative altogether to avoid an upset stomach or unwanted side effects? Yes! It just so happens there is.  The answer to our problems is PatchMD Vitamin Supplement Patches.

PatchMD Vitamin Supplement Patches are the easiest, most effective way to stay healthy.

PatchMD Vitamin Supplement Patches are exactly what they sound like. They’re topical patches you place on your body, and release vitamins/supplements directly into the bloodstream throughout the day using a time release formula. It only takes one patch per day and lasts for 24 hours. Not to mention, the patches activate in the body within just 3-5 minutes. Do you know how long it takes an oral pill to take effect? 4 hours!!!

And that’s after passing through the stomach and digestive process. Not only do oral pills take longer to become effective, but you’re only getting as little as 5% of the supplement. Wait – what? You mean all this time I’ve been choking down vitamins, I haven’t been getting the full effect of the supplement? Not anymore! With PatchMD Vitamin Supplement Patches I’m getting up to 95% of the supplement into my cells. Now that’s more like it!

If I can remember to take a pill AND choke it down, there’s no reason I can’t make time to put on a patch. It really doesn’t take any more time anyways and I don’t have to worry about choking down a pill.

And there’s quite a variety of PatchMD options available, too. Just take a look at this list!

  • Anti-Aging
  • B12 Energy Plus
  • CoQ10 Plus
  • Garcinia Cambogia
  • Glucosamine & Chondroitin
  • Iron Plus
  • Keep Klear Acne Prevention
  • KIDS Multivitamin + Omega 3
  • Last Call Hangover Prevention
  • Menopause Day Relief
  • Menopause Night Relief
  • Multivitamin Plus
  • Omega 3 Plus
  • PMS Day Relief
  • PMS Night Relief
  • Sleep Starter
  • Vitamin C Plus
  • Vitamin D3
  • Vitamin D3/Calcium

PatchMD Vitamin Supplement Patches are the easiest, most effective way to stay healthy.

I recently introduced my mother-in-law to PatchMD Vitamin D3 patches and she’s been using them for the past few days. She hasn’t had any of the problems or side effects she did with oral vitamin pills. The patches are easy to apply and remove from the skin, and really take no effort at all. You can even apply it in a location that’s discrete so that your clothes cover it up. No one will ever know you’re getting vitamin or supplement intake throughout the day. I mean, does it get any easier?

My son is a very picky eater and we have the hardest time getting any kind of good nutrition in his system. He won’t even take kids vitamins that are purchased over the counter, like Flintstones or even the gummy vitamins. Sneaking gummy vitamins into his fruit snacks doesn’t even work. He’s too smart for that. So on my list to try is the KIDS Mutlivitamin + Omega 3. Maybe a “sticker” will do the trick.

Shop PatchMD + Discount!

PatchMD Vitamin Supplement Patches can be purchased online at Skinthology.com and a 30 day supply is just $19.95. How amazing is that? Making Time for Great Recipes: Blue Wave Smoothie

Making Time for Great #Recipes: Blue Wave Smoothie

One thing I’ve tried to change in my diet over the past few years is to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.  So far it’s been a lot easier than I thought it would be and I’ve learned so much about different ways of preparing and cooking different fruits and vegetables.

About 4 years ago, in an effort to lose weight I decided to look for a cookbook that had recipes that were low in carbs, fat and calories.  I came across Eat What You Love by Marlene Koch.

Not only is this cookbook great for weight loss, but the recipes were also great for controlling diabetes, which is something that runs in my family.  Up to this point I’ve avoided being diagnosed with diabetes and hope to be able to continue being diabetes free.

Making Time for Great #Recipes: Blue Wave Smoothie

Every single recipe I’ve tried from Eat What You Love has been delicious and I use the recipes ALL the time.  One of the first recipes I tried was the “Blue Wave Smoothie” and it immediately became a favorite.  And now, 4 years later, I’m still enjoying a “Blue Wave Smoothie” about once a week.  It’s easy to make, requires only a few ingredients, uses fresh fruit and tastes amazing!

Making Time for Home Fitness: 2 Week Daily Burn Update + My Favorite Recipe

2 Week #DailyBurn Update + My Favorite #Recipe

I’m now well into week 3 of my Daily Burn adventure and thought I’d just give you a little bit of an update on how my first 2 weeks went.  And since I’ve had some time to try some of the Daily Burn recipes, I want to share with you one of my favorites so far.

Week 1

Well, I didn’t lose any weight the first week, but that didn’t get me down.  I noticed a major boost in energy, which is something that’s proven to be beneficial.  I’m staying up later at night and being much more productive than usual, and productivity is definitely a good thing when you’re a working at home mom of two.

The increased energy keeps me going during the day and unlike before, I don’t yearn for a nap every day (even though I never really got naps before anyways).  During my daughter’s nap time I can get some work done, or some blogging completed, and even get my daily workout in.

Week 2

Although there was a noticeable increase in energy during week 1, I was a little bummed that I didn’t lose any weight.  I didn’t let it get me down, though and decided to make some changes to my diet in week 2 while continuing with my Daily Burn workouts.

I cut out as many carbs as I possibly could.  No bread, no rice, no potatoes, no pasta.  Well, I did say as many carbs as possible – I did have a small portion of mashed potatoes and rather than white rice, I opted for brown rice one evening with dinner.  But I was able to manage without any bread or pasta.

2 Week #DailyBurn Update + Crustless Vegetable Quiche #Recipe

In week 2, not only did my energy stay boosted, but I lost 3 pounds! Woohoo!  Now I’m working on week 3 and killing it.

Daily Burn Recipe: Crustless Vegetable Quiche

I’ve had a little bit of time to try some of the Daily Burn recipes and so far I am loving the Crustless Vegetable Quiche.  No joke, I could have eaten the whole thing by myself.  Luckily for my boyfriend, I saved him some and then to my surprise, he finished it off.  Even my 10 month old had a few bites.  It really is delicious!

This Crustless Vegetable Quiche #recipe from Daily Burn is healthy AND delicious!

There’s a lot of ingredients that go into it, but it’s actually pretty easy to make.  Don’t let that fancy “quiche” word scare you.  This is the first quiche I’ve ever made and it was definitely love at first bite!

Don’t forget you can sign up with Daily Burn and get a 30 day free trial.  In fact, I’m still in my own free trial period.  Plus, there are plenty more tasty recipes to try out to help you on your adventure.  I can’t wait to try more of them.  I’m thinking maybe something to satisfy my sweet tooth would be good next.

Making Time for Affordable Fresh Produce

There's no need to empty your wallet to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Check out these 5 ways to save money on fresh produce!

It can be very hard to find fresh produce at a decent price.  I remember countless grocery shopping trips where I’d buy just a few pieces of fresh fruits and vegetables, but spend $30+.  It’s no wonder I have some weight to lose.  I’d oftentimes forego fresh produce just so that I could afford all of my groceries and be able to eat for more than a day or two.

That has all changed for me in the recent year because I’ve found places in my local area that carry amazingly fresh and tasty fruits and vegetables, at an even more amazing and affordable price.

So without further ado, here are 5 ways I have found that are great for saving money on fresh produce.

1.  Grow your own garden.

Okay, so this probably seems like a no brainer, but I thought I’d throw it out there.  I remember as a child we designated a large portion of our backyard to grow a vegetable garden.  We grew potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, okra, squash and corn, that I can remember.

And I’m talking this garden was pretty big.  Even as a child I remember using a hand-driven machine to till the land and then all the hard work and labor that went into planting, watering and picking everything.

Growing a garden is hard work, but if you grow only what you can manage, it’s definitely doable and saves a lot of money.  I don’t personally have my own vegetable garden now because I live in an apartment, but I hope to one day be able to grow one.  Until then I have to do some research on what I can grow in containers on my balcony and jealously admire everyone else’s Facebook pictures of their own garden goodies.

2.  Local farmer’s market.

A farmer’s market is where I first found fresh produce at a good price.  When I think of a farmer’s market, I picture something that’s outdoors with various stands where people sell whatever fresh produce they grow themselves.

Since moving to Miami, I’ve discovered that not all farmer’s markets live up to my preconceived notion.  There is a small, but great indoor farmer’s market not too far from me.  It’s literally just a small store.  Nothing fancy, but just a location that has a farmer’s market feel and smell, and sells nothing but produce that’s very fresh and pretty affordable.

My first great find at my local farmer’s market was pineapples.  At a regular grocery store a whole fresh pineapple will run me anywhere from $3.99 on sale to maybe $5.99+ at regular price.  At my farmer’s market, they had them for just $2.50!  That is a pretty big difference in price if you ask me.

3.  Flea market.

This one may not really be on your radar when it comes to fresh produce, but a lot of flea markets have stands that carry nothing but fruits and vegetables.  There’s one flea market, in particular, in my mother’s area that we visit occasionally while visiting her house.

The fruit and vegetables are sold in some sort of medium sized, open containers, in which the produce is stacked up and over the container as high as a stack can go without falling over.  Depending on the size of the fruits and vegetables, I can purchase 6-7 nice sized tomatoes or 6-7 squash/zucchini for just a couple of dollars.

4.  Small local grocery stores.

This has recently become my absolute favorite way to save on produce.  If you have an Aldi store in your area and haven’t visited yet, you are surely missing out.  You may have to bring your own bags and have a quarter on hand to use a buggy (cart, depending on where you’re from, haha), but the prices are totally worth it.

I went to Aldi just last week for my weekly shopping trip and stocked up on all kinds of fresh produce.  A head of lettuce for a $1.29, hass avocados for $0.49/each, a medium sized seedless watermelon for $3.19, a bag of onions for $0.79, a container of grape tomatoes for $0.59, and the list goes on and on.

I haven’t found anywhere that beats these prices, except for one place and that’s Presidente, another local grocery store in my area.  I don’t personally care for the feel of this store, but if saving money is on your mind and you want fresh from the farm produce, it may be the place for you.  The store has weekly sales and sometimes you can get 10 limes for $1.00, or 4 cucumbers for $1.00, or 4 pounds of bananas for a $1.00.  Where else can you beat those prices?!

5.  Rebate apps.

Last, but not least, after every grocery shopping trip I always check my phone rebate apps to see if there are any rebates for the fresh produce I just purchased.  Some of my favorite rebate apps include Ibotta, Checkout 51, MobiSave and Saving Star.  Ibotta, Checkout 51 and Saving Star always have some sort of fresh produce rebates every week, and occasionally MobiSave does also.  The rebates may be small (typically $0.25), but it adds up pretty fast.

Whether you grow your own garden, shop at a local farmer’s market, flea market or small grocery stores, or you use rebate apps, there’s definitely room for saving money on fresh produce.

Just do some asking around to see if there’s a location in your area that maybe you aren’t familiar with, but may have some great prices on fresh produce.  It never hurts to try some place new.  In fact, this is how I found my local farmer’s market store.  I actually went to Google maps and simply typed in farmer’s market, and voila!  Visiting became part of my to-do list and it turned out to be a good find.

There is no denying I have a major sweet tooth.  Some days brownies, cake, cookies, pie, cobbler, ice cream (you name it) is all I can think about.  I usually have enough self control to hold off, knowing I’d just be eating empty calories and carbs that would most likely go straight to my butt.  But sometimes my cravings just take over and I HAVE to have something.

Paka Baking Mixes are low in calories, low in sugar and net carbs, and high in fiber and protein. Now you can satisfy your sweet tooth without any guilt!

They were quick and easy to make.  The only ingredients I added to the mix was water, eggs and butter, and it took just about 20 minutes to bake.  The brownies definitely have a cookies and cream taste, but still have that nice thick, moist, chewy brownie consistency.  Yum!

The best part about eating these brownies was not having to worry about adding unwanted calories and carbs to my diet.  The Cookies & Cream Brownie Bars have just 1g of sugar and only 70 calories per serving, plus 6g of fiber and 5g of protein!

You’re probably wondering what it is that makes Paka Baking Mixes sweet without having a lot of sugar.  It’s the very first ingredient listed on the box – Kakato.  Kakato is a natural, high fiber, low-cal-sweetener that contains natural soluble prebiotic fiber, tagatose, stevia extract, monk fruit extract, and has a natural sweet flavor.  Yeap, it’s that easy to get a sweet taste without all the sugar and you’re even adding some extra fiber into your diet.

I think I’m going to be trying the German Chocolate Brownies next.  If you can’t tell, I LOVE brownies, haha.

I know $13.99 seems a bit steep for a sweet treat, but considering the benefits of Paka Baking Mixes compared to store bought mixes, I have no problem spending a little extra to be able to satisfy my sweet tooth without gaining a few pounds in doing so.

Which flavor would you try first?
